Patches
This list is never complete, of course. Please feel free to send any updates or suggestions to us, at patchlist at dc509 dot org (you know the drill).
- Sun Microsystems (Solaris)
Sun Microsystems no longer offers patch buncles unless you have a maintenance (or support) contract. You can, however, retrieve recommended and security patches, one at a time. With or without a contract, the place for patches is the same. http://sunsolve.sun.com/ is the portal, and once you've agreed to terms, the quick way to patches is here: http://sunsolve.sun.com/show.do?target=patches/patch-access
- Red Hat
Red Hat's nearly as much fun as Sun. http://www.redhat.com/security/ Their actual updates are documented in http://www.redhat.com/security/updates/.
- Debian
Debian is a sensible distribution, and they want you to be able to find the patches. They're right there, linked on the front page of the site, http://www.debian.org/.
- Slackware
One of the oldest Linux distributions, and still going strong. http://www.slackware.com/ has a nice link to the security advisories, http://www.slackware.com/security/.
- Fedora
Fedora, an offspring of the original Red Hat distribution, provides patches on their site, http://fedoraproject.org/. You're on your own, here. Check out the bugs section under Docs.
- FreeBSD
FreeBSD has advisories on the main page, and the newest ones are right there, nice and easy to find, http://www.freebsd.org/. Earlier issues, and other information, are on security, http://www.freebsd.org/security/.
- OpenBSD
OpenBSD ( http://www.openbsd.org/), also has a page devoted to patches, http://www.openbsd.org/errata42.html. Unfortunately, it changes with each new release. Not polite, Theo.
- NetBSD
NetBSD ( http://www.netbsd.org/), while not as well known, is reputed to run on computers that were old before many of us were born. They make it a bit difficult to find patches; http://www.netbsd.org/support/security/.
